Frequently Asked Questions

  • At Body Wise, we bridge massage and corrective bodywork. Many massage businesses focus on relaxation, but we specialize in helping you move better, feel stronger, and resolve the root causes of discomfort. We never use cookie-cutter recipes or routines. We customize every session and combine deep technical knowledge with effective, hands-on techniques to create real, lasting change in your body.

Whether you’re an athlete, someone recovering from injury, or just tired of recurring aches and pains, we offer solutions, not just stress relief.

  • Your first visit will start with a conversation about your goals, movement history, and any discomfort you’re experiencing. We may also assess your posture and how you move to spot imbalances. From there, we’ll create a custom session combining massage, deep tissue techniques, and corrective movement, tailored to your body’s needs.

Expect to leave with new insights about your body and, if you’re interested, simple strategies you can use at home to continue improving.

  • Absolutely! Bodywork is one of the most effective ways to improve posture and mobility because we address the restrictions and imbalances in your muscles and connective tissues directly. Many posture issues are caused by tissues pulling joints out of alignment or limiting their movement.

We release those problem areas and then help you integrate better movement strategies so your body can maintain its gains. For many clients, we combine hands-on work with targeted mobility drills and posture re-education.

  • Massage and deep tissue work free up tight tissues and improve circulation, but pairing it with corrective movement solidifies the change. Once restrictions are reduced, we use targeted stretches, resistance drills, or table-based movement patterns to retrain your body in real time.

This combination helps you break out of the cycle of temporary relief and move toward sustainable progress—whether your goal is reducing pain, improving posture, or enhancing athletic performance.

  • Most chronic pain and injuries stem from imbalances or compensations in how you move, sit, or exercise. Our work identifies those patterns and helps unwind the tension and stress accumulating in your soft tissues and joints.

Whether you’re recovering from an injury or battling persistent pain, we use specialized techniques to reduce strain, restore better movement, and help you rebuild resilience over time.

  • Massage focuses on relaxation and stimulating your nervous system to encourage natural healing. Bodywork, on the other hand, creates deeper mechanical changes using targeted pressure, similar to applying exercise to specific areas of the body.

At Body Wise, we combine both—but our specialty lies in Bodywork. We use movement medicinally to rebalance tissues and joints for lasting results.

  • Only if you want to. If you’d like a traditional massage with oils and gliding strokes, you’ll undress to your comfort level and be covered by a sheet—just like most massage settings.

Prefer to stay clothed? No problem. Many of our techniques work great through flexible, athletic wear. Our stretch services are also fully clothed.

  • We don’t guess—we know. And that’s because we have studied and mastered anatomy and biomechanics at a greater depth than other massage practitioners. With our deep understanding of how muscles, joints, and connective tissues function, we can quickly locate imbalances and apply precise techniques that address the root cause.

You'll also get useful tips on posture, movement, and self-care exercises to help you maintain and even build on the results from each session.

Above all, we always remind our clients; people who apply even small movement or strength training changes at home often get faster, longer-lasting improvements.

  • We specialize in crafting sessions that match your body’s unique needs; no cookie-cutter routines. If you’re an athlete, massage enthusiast, or someone who wants a more scientific approach to bodywork, we’re a great fit.

We’re especially helpful for those who want long-term solutions, not just temporary relief, and want to blend deep tissue techniques with education to create lasting change.

  • We are ideal for the motivated and curious. Our work is great for anyone dealing with:

    • Chronic pain or injury

    • Poor movement habits

    • Muscle or joint imbalances

    • A lack of variety in stretching/strength training

We’re also a strong fit for people who are eager to learn more about their bodies and make positive changes before things progress to medical interventions.

  • Not when done right. Deep tissue work is about change, not pain. While working on problem areas can be uncomfortable, we adjust techniques to your preferred intensity. Discomfort is normal, but unnecessary pain isn’t.

Think of it like driving: you can go fast and take more risk, or slower and safer. We’ll help you decide the right “speed” to reach your goals comfortably and effectively.
